Nathalie Lafrenière has been at the helm of EORC (The Eastern Ottawa Resource Center) for 4 years now and has dedicated her career to improving the living conditions of her community. She has been working in the community since the beginning of her career, first as a social worker and then in multiple social sectors. For her, the well-being of people goes far beyond simple health care:
“The services offered by community organizations like EORC are developed with a holistic view of the person. This means that we must be present throughout the entire care process.”
It is to ensure the needs of the people and the community are taken into consideration that she got involved in the steering committee of the Ottawa East Health Ontario team. Services provided by community agencies are an essential part of the continuum of care.
For several months now, EORC’s home support services for seniors and adults living with physical disabilities have been located at the Orléans Health Hub, where Nathalie has seen what can be accomplished when partners work together. The diversity of care and services offered there shows how community services and primary and ambulatory care complement each other. It’s a good indication of what our health team will be able to accomplish on a larger scale.
The Eastern Ottawa Resource Centre is part of what many refer to as the social safety net working within the community to address challenges faced by individuals and families. Whether we are dealing with issues of violence, poverty, aging, health, adolescence, food security, housing or any other of today’s challenges, the Centre is committed to be a welcoming place for all. The OERC serves a population of over 136,000.
